In January 2007, the City of Lier assigned a major contract to Tein Telecom for urban video surveillance.
The first phase of the project includes the implementation of camera's for the video surveillance of "Eikelstraat" and "Zimmerplein" square.

In a later stage, the second phase will consist in extending the zone of surveillance to other commercial sites, to the railway station area and to the Grand' Place.
The solution chosen by the city is perfectly integrated within the fiber optic network that is being expanded, which allows to reduce considerably the infrastructure costs. For the sites that are not equipped with optic fiber, Tein Telecom places secured wireless links operating in a license free bandwidth.
The control station of the local Police will use the Simba platform for the real time monitoring, for search and replay in view of post-event investigation, and for system management.
The implemented solution allows the implementation and the integration of intelligent image analysis in view of specific applications, such as ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) or the detection of abnormal behaviors.
Tein Telecom was chosen for this project for its recognized experience in the urban video integration, and for the user friendliness of the SIMBA graphical interface. The Police of Lier is now equipped with a system that will positively influence its efficiency in their daily work.
